The State of Nonprofits in 2021

Wednesday, February 3, 2021 12:00noon - 1pm

$10.00

Zoom

As we begin 2021 and start thinking about developing strategies for this new year, we must consider the external environment – including finances and
the economy. Back by popular demand, join Associate Professor of Finance and Strategy Paul Hawkinson as he shares observations and predictions to help navigate our financial and strategic “now” and “next.”

How will the changing economy and the emerging policies affect our work in the nonprofit sector in the coming year? What are the client, mission and
donor implications of the continuing pandemic and political transitions? What can we learn from strategic and financial approaches deployed in other industries?

This session will improve our understanding of how the economy and finances matter for our strategic planning.

Questions this session will engage:

  • From a financial and political perspective, what are some opportunities and threats that nonprofits should consider?
  • How should your SWOT analysis be informed by the “external environment” of the economy and the ongoing pandemic?

About the Presenter:   Paul Hawkinson, Associate Professor of Finance & Strategy, North Park University

After leaving a 17-year Wall Street career as an investment banker, Paul has developed a
portfolio of projects that carry deep personal meaning. This diverse portfolio has included direct
investing, executive coaching, leadership & advisory roles in startup ventures, social impact
platforms, non-profit & for profit organizations, while also serving as mentor, speaker and
professional faculty member at North Park University (Finance & Strategy). A common theme in
these settings has been the "intersection" of faith and finance - pursuing a lifelong desire to
devote more time in the service of others - particularly under-resourced communities in the
Chicago area and beyond.
